TCEQ exam day: what to bring, what to expect

During the exam
The Class D exam is closed-book and proctored on a computer at the center. You get a 3-hour time limit, which is generous for this exam, so read each question carefully and check your math instead of rushing. A non-programmable calculator is the only calculating aid allowed, and the scratch paper the proctor gives you is collected before you leave, whether it is blank or used.
After you finish
You do not wait days to learn how you did. The center gives you an immediate exam score and a printed exam analysis showing how you did by area, and you can have both emailed to you. If you pass, the TCEQ issues the license within one week of your exam date. If you do not pass, some testing sites offer one immediate retest the same day, so ask before you leave.
Before the day: schedule first
You cannot walk in. First submit your application and fee and wait for the TCEQ approval letter, then contact a registered testing center to book a date. Centers are independent: they set their own schedules, may charge an additional testing fee, and some do not refund it, so confirm the date, the cost, and their ID and check-in rules when you book.
